have to travel about 2 km to reach the top of the rock. Otherwise you
can take the main road adjacent from the top to the bottom or the
natural pathway. Certainly the entire area is an eco tourism destination
with adventure based activities.
Meanwhile a mythical legend says that once the city of Kurunegala was bordered with a severe drought.
Therefore the animals threatened the water supply of the
city and stupendously turned in to a gigantic rock. Thus the city is
situated on a high altitude you will find a panoramic view to the plain
land of Kurunegala city with number of rocks. As soon as you climbed to
the top, a marvelous out view to the Kurunegala city and Kurungala Lake
can be explored. Never the less the entire path is fully assailed by
vivid butterflies and birds. Visitors are not expected leave anything,
yet the foot prints. You will find so many Locals climbing the rock
considering the Buddha state. Thus teenagers are visiting the 'Ethugala
climb' with the advent their free time. Kurunegala has a precious
tropical climate and temperature throughout the year. Anyway you can
visit Eththa gala, Ibba gala, yakdessa Gala and Elu gala along with the
Ethugala. Perhaps it will be tough but it will be a great climb to
entertain your friends and family. You can see an 88 feet giant Buddha
statue on the top of the Ethugala. At a glance of view from kurunegala
city you can see this whitish Buddha statue lying on the Ethugala rock.
Devotees never forget to offer flowers and to light oil lamps to the
Buddha. At the same time travelers can enjoy bike rides, mountain biking
races and mountain climbing. Perhaps you may feel quite thirsty as it
gets so hot in the noon Kurunegala, so make sure to take a bottle of
water with you.

attractions like Himalaya Meditation Center, Sasseruwa (RasVehera),
Buddha statue, Arankele forest monastery, Yapahuwa rock fortress,
Bodhigara at Nilakgama, Kabbella Lena Cave Temple, Dewagiri Viharaya,
Koduruwapola Raja MahaViharaya, Kotamudungala Raja MahaViharaya and
Padeniya Raja MahaViharaya. So don't get exhausted with just visiting
Ethugala climb.
